En caso de no realizar esta agregación, se deberían recorrer N registros de la tabla para realizar la consulta. It's not right to put in a fictional person in a historical drama. It just confuses people. They should have kept the actual partner of James Glaisher, Henry Coxwell with him in the movie. There were women who were actual aeronauts such as: Sophie Blanchard, wife of the first professional balloonist, who went on to make 60 trips on her own even after her husband died. She also made experiments, and had fun, setting off fireworks, and crossed the alps in her balloon! Then there is Camille Du Gast who was also an avid race car driver, who was friends with two other women balloonists who were widely renowned for their accomplishments. Why weren't these real women's stories told, their accomplishments, having the film focus on aeronauts the world over? Many of them corresponded with each other and were friends and knew of each other. This has been done successfully in films before, no reason why it couldn't, and do justice to history. It helps no one to put in people who weren't there. Aeronauts led exciting lives. Women aeronauts did face these sorts of challenges. I would have preferred based on their letters and history in newspapers, to see more of what women really faced than possibly some contrived scripting, that will feel cliche.

Given I have a fear of heights, this movie gave my stomach the flutters. Thankfully, they didn't overdo those scenes. I'm guessing real balloonists are going to hate parts of the movie. I know nothing about the sport but some things were so farfetched it was obvious they weren't based in reality. Still, this is an action adventure movie, so just go with it.
I was a little apprehensive because I HATE the politically correcting that's currently going on in historical movies. I was glad to find out that Felicity Jones' fictional character was based on a real person of the time. Great performances by Redmayne and Jones. É uma pessoa que faz parte de uma estatística assustadora, divulgada por uma das maiores empresas de segurança digital do mundo: no ano passado, no Brasil, as tentativas de instalação de programas espiões nos celulares de parceiros cresceram 228%. Hoje, o Brasil é o terceiro país com maior número de instalações e usuários afetados por esse tipo de aplicativo. O Brasil perde apenas para a Rússia e a Índia. Os programas estão cada vez mais sofisticados e deixando menos rastros. Muitos são criados especialmente por detetives particulares. Ele não desconfiou quando ganhou um celular de presente, já com o aplicativo instalado. "Eu esperava que com esse aplicativo eu ia só tirar uma dúvida, que eu não ia ver nada disso. We are not professional movie reviewers or anything like that but absolutely enjoyed all the different emotions in this movie, it was Charming, Comical, Witty, Action Packed, Heart Warming, Suspenseful, and more! We also loved the relationship between David Batista & Chloe Coleman. just Precious, and their performances charming! There was some violence and language but nothing bloody or disgusting. I think that about sums it up - What is this movie? What is it trying to be? And when, oh when, will it end?
It's a bit too violent and has too many pointless, non-story progressing scenes to be a kids' movie but it is definitely not for adults. All the good bits are in the 30-second advert that convinced us to go and see it.
We saw a morning session at the cinema. At 10.57am I checked my watch, at 11.01am I checked my watch and was stunned to find time had completely slowed.
Although Chloe Coleman is an excellent actress and very watchable, every other character was unbelievable, unappealing and terribly written. What a waste of clever people like Kristen Schaal (or as I call her, Mel from Flight of the Conchords.
My older son thought it was okay but when pressed, couldn't name a favourite scene. The younger one gave up and ended up playing a game on my phone about an hour in.

Dr. Who has been ruined by nonsense, should be renamed to Dr. no. i have watched since season 1 and was one of my favorite shows until season 11 and i am not even going to waste my time on season 12, should have just cancelled it and let it die with some dignity... Ngl honestly thought that the old guy was gonna turn out to be the dream lord or something. Well, I was on my way to this gay Gypsy bar mitzvah for the disabled when I suddenly thought Gosh, the Third Reich's a bit rubbish. I think I'll kill the Fuehrer. Who's with me? Also, don't you hate it when only one leg goes to sleep? Bloody rude. You wind up with off-kilter legs and suddenly you're eligible for the Ministry of Silly Walks, which is a hassle and a half to get to, now let me tell you...

AT&T’s HBO Max is locking up the streaming rights for a number of popular BBC television shows, most notably the science fiction series Doctor Who. The shows are part of a deal between the BBC and AT&T’s WarnerMedia, and will include all the current seasons of Doctor Who as well as classic shows such as The Office, Top Gear, Luther, and The Honourable Woman when it launches in the spring of 2020. HBO Max will also get a number of newer shows, like Ghosts, Home, Pure, Stath Lets Flats, and Trigonometry. The platform will also stream the upcoming 12th series of Doctor Who after it airs on BBC America in 2020. Those shows will join a growing roster of existing and original content on the platform. HBO Max is slated to get every episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, and Pretty Little Liars, as well as new shows like an adaptation of Madeline Miller’s Circe and a companion show to Denis Villeneuve’s forthcoming adaptation of Dune, Dune: The Sisterhood. Doctor Who in particular should be a big draw for the service, which has bounced around from streaming service to streaming service — while it’s always been available to stream in the UK for free from BBC’s iPlayer, it’s been harder elsewhere. The show landed on Netflix in 2011 and moved over to Amazon Prime a couple of years later, where you can currently stream all but the current season with a subscription. But theoretically, the HBO Max deal means Amazon’s about to lose the show as well. The series is perennially popular, and as such, it should be a good draw for anyone who’s been looking to catch up or binge the entire thing again — something that WarnerMedia is likely counting on.

Please can Yaz stay for season 13? ❤️. As a fan of the older Doctor Who series, I went into the first episode of this series jaded by remake failures and ready to cut it to bits. I was pleasantly surprised by the clever writing, excellent acting, superb scripts and wonderful character development. I appreciate the fact that respect to the older series has been clearly shown so far, from the opening music to the inspired appearance of one of the Doctor's most insidious foes. The production quality is much higher than any of the previous Doctor Who series. (Let's not even mention the movie. Guest appearances and allusions to familiar BBC stars add to the fun. So - highly recommended - but watch it in order from the beginning. Character and plot development are critical to enjoyment. I can only hope this series is a harbinger of other TV shows to come. The future may indeed be bright.

The forthcoming WarnerMedia streaming platform has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to “ Doctor Who, ” with all 11 seasons of the historic BBC series coming to the service upon launch in spring 2020. The news comes as part of a deal with BBC studios which means the streamer will be the home of future “ Doctor Who ” seasons after they air on BBC America. Strangers would look at one another, a little frightened, as the big box ascended. When the doors finally opened, they’d spill into the restaurant, giddy with relief. Safe! How long did it take? A minute, maybe longer, but in that time you left Manhattan, and every familiar thing, behind. Windows on the World was the ultimate destination restaurant, and Joe Baum, the consummate host, played it for all it was worth. You walked from darkness into light, toward floor-to-ceiling windows beckoning from the end of the corridor. When you reached them, it was almost impossible to resist the urge to press yourself against the glass and look down at the microscopic people on the sidewalk below. From up here it was a toy village, cars nosing silently down crowded streets while, off in the distance, planes took off and landed at distant airports. The restaurant’s name was not lightly chosen. As the mâitre d’ led you across the vast expanse of restaurant, the city winked up from all sides. Then the fireworks began. James Beard himself helped create the original menu, but over the years chefs came and went, tinkering with the food. Critics carped, but we all knew that it didn’t really matter who was at the helm. You ordered like a Master of the Universe: oysters heaped with pearls of caviar, whole lobes of foie gras in Sauternes, burnished ducks and butter-braised lobsters. And you took your time with Kevin Zraly’s wine list, which was, of course, one of the largest in the world, offering everything from rare Napa Valley Chardonnays to the magnificent Bordeaux of 1982. A soufflé was the only way to end. Or you could opt for the dacquoise, all crunch and crackle. Then you pushed your plate away and, in the early years, at least, settled back with a cigar to watch night capture the city. The ride down seemed faster. But even when you were finally on the ground, your head stayed up there. It’s been said we’ve romanticized the place after the horror of what happened there. I’d say we romanticized it all along. It was never about the food. It was about ambition and dreams. It was a temple of New York magic. Windows on the World, despite the fact that it takes place in the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, is a film that is urgently for our time. It is a hero's journey of a son trying to find his father in that grief-stricken landscape and the characters stand in for the millions of immigrants, legal and illegal, who contribute in their everyday lives, to the American landscape. The film seeks to counter the narrative that's all-too-prevalent in today's political and media landscape by telling a story set in America's biggest and most diverse city, at its darkest time. The script by playwright and novelist Robert Mailer Anderson (who also produced the film) is wise and completely engaging; he creates indelible characters who are ultimately inspiring and uplifting. Edward James Olmos gives what he considers to be the performance of a lifetime, and the rest of the cast is terrific as well-with a special shout-out to Glynn Turman. The direction, by Olmos's son Michael, is sure-handed, getting terrific performances from his cast, including his father, in this father-son story, and it's beautifully lensed. The music, including jazz and a title track written by Anderson, is pitch-perfect, supporting the story without getting in the way. This film should be seen by everybody-and I'm sure it will be in mainstream distribution soon, as this is a time when, although the major studios may have turned their backs on substance, terrific indie films like this one have many other possible venues. If you can't see it at a film festival, like I did, keep a keen eye out for it. Terrific and inspiring.

The Windows On The World restaurant located in the North Tower of the WTC demonstrated how life and death can sometimes be decided on a razor thin wire of chance. In rare cases, one small change to a persons circumstances can significantly change the course or outcome of an event. The details of this decision-incident can often remain completely hidden to all the individuals involved until the event is completely over. Only then does the clear picture begin to unfold. WTC North Tower – September 11th – Slim Chance Between Life and Death. In this terrible tragedy, the North Tower, also known as 1 World Trade Center had it the worst. Not only was it the first building to be hit by one of the planes, but it was also the last building to fall. It was the only building that had all its fire stairs knocked out, that meant no-one above air strike on the 92nd floor ever got out and there would be no escape for its trapped occupants, where they would forced to witness the increasing carnage around them with their own slow realization of their ultimate demise. The Hijacked Planes Strike On September 11th 2001 at 8:46:26 a. m. American Airlines Flight 11 Boeing 767 impacted the north side of the North Tower of 1 World Trade Center. The plane entered the North Tower between the 94th and 98th floors. Flight 11 was flying at a speed of 490 miles per hour at the time of impact. North Tower occupants had no clue what was about to happen and they had no chance of survival from above the impact site, because, unlike the South Tower that was hit a few minutes later, all the fire escapes were destroyed by the impact of the plane. Documented accounts of human losses that morning at the North Tower at The World Trade Center included employees from such companies as Aon Corp, Cantor Fitzgerald and Marsh & McLennan. One particular company, Risk Waters Group Ltd, A British company, was at The Windows On The World conference facility that morning, they would not normally have been there. Windows On The World – Background On This Most Famous Restaurant Windows On The World was a world famous 40, 000 square foot restaurant near the top of the North tower on the 107th Floor at 1 World Trade Center. It boasted a popular “New American” style menu and had a first class wine list that included Chateau Lafite-Rothschild 1928 for $3000. 00. The 107th floor was also occupied by “The Greatest Bar on Earth”, aka GBOE. This 13, 000 square foot happy hour bar was popular with tourists and Wall Street types alike. It was a traditional for New Yorkers to often complain about its “poor quality” and “expensive” drinks, but its location spoke volumes with amazing panoramic views of Manhattan and the tri-state area that was pretty hard to beat. The 107th floor was also occupied by Wild Blue, a romantic and quieter restaurant and bar in the space formerly occupied by Cellar in the Sky. A popular misconception is that Windows on the World was at the very top of the North tower, when in fact the top enclosed floor was the 110th floor, where CNN and some other television companies sited equipment and staff. The South tower, across the square, was home to the public glass-enclosed observatory located on the 107th floor and the world’s highest open-air deck on the 110th floor, that the tourists could visit. On the fateful day of 9/11 2001 the Windows on The World Conference Facility on the 106th floor was playing host to the Risk Waters Financial seminar. One floor above, on the 107th floor, the main restaurant and the bar were closed. Wild Blue, however was the only thing open  on that floor and was serving breakfast to a number of WTC tenants and occupants. The Risk Waters Financial Conference The Risk Waters Group would not have normally been at the World Trade Center that day. They had organized a financial technology conference that was due to run both days of Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of September 2001. They had invited a number of delegates from various financial companies and vendors in New York and the United States. What distinguishes those delegates from the other victims in the WTC is that they wouldn’t normally be there and chance had a way of putting them there that morning. This, of course, is of no solace to the families left behind, but nevertheless remains a gruesome fact. The delegate’s presence at the WTC is somewhat akin to the people who died at the (alleged) job interviews at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 95th floor. People who wouldn’t have normally been there, but happenstance put them there. The Risk Waters conference was due to start at 8:00 AM with Breakfast, with the first speaker due to begin at 9:00 the precise time of the impact were 16 staff from Risk Waters and 53 delegates from various invited companies and vendors in attendance. An additional 137 delegates had been invited but had not arrived at the time of the impact or did not plan in coming after all. Following the plane impact there were reports that delegates from this conference were being moved to the 107th floor. Conflicting reports indicate that smoke was heavy at the 107th floor and all the “Windows” staff was moved to the 106th floor to join the delegates. No Survivors From Above The 92nd Floor Christine Olender, the restaurant’s assistant general manager, said via her mobile phone to 911 services “We’re getting no direction up here. We’re having a smoke condition. We have most people on the 106th floor; the 107th floor is way too smoky, ” Other people above the impact site in the North Tower included staff from Windows on the World located on the 106th and 107th floors and from other companies on various floors above and below. It is understood that the roof deck was not accessible by the staff and delegates, but this is perhaps irrelevant as they may have sought adequate refuge on the 106th floor and rooftop rescue by helicopter was not a viable option, due to the updraft caused by the burning aviation fuel It is estimated over 200 people jumped to their death, with the majority of that number being made up from the North tower, where the fire and smoke were limited to fewer floors – which made it more intense. The estimate was because “Jumper” injuries were very similar to injuries sustained by enclosed occupants and could not be clearly established following the event. The figure was arrived at by analyzing photographs of descending bodies that were taken at the scene. In the North Tower there were 1360 fatalities above the 92nd floor, which was 100% of its occupants at the contrast, the South tower had one fire escape that was passable after their impact, so in fact 350 people escaped even though they were above the point of above the 92nd floor in the North tower on that fateful day meant certain death for its occupants. No one survived. While many WTC corporations knew the risk of an attack following the 1993 bomb was high, they had accepted the risk of this occurrence and went on with their daily lives. In retrospect all the regular daily inhabitants of the WTC were a walking probability. The Risk Waters group and delegates exemplify the randomness of the event. It seems sadly ironic that the Risk Waters Group range of products and services are dedicated to risk management. Individuals of Special Note Who Died in the North Tower Liz Thompson, executive director of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Liz Thompson 61 is executive director of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC). Thompson was on what was to be the last elevator down from the 91st floor in the north tower of the World Trade Center. She was in a meeting concerning a public art commission; Liz is reported to have exited the lobby at 8:43 AM. LMCC artist in residence Michael Richards, was not so lucky, he remained on the 91st floor and perished. George Sleigh, naval architect 62-year old naval architect, George Sleigh, was in a north-facing office on the telephone to a colleague on the 91st floor. His secretary [from his office on the 67th floor] was talking to him by phone, and as he was talking the plane hit, and they both said `Holy cow! ’ at the same time. The line went dead. Then [a co-worker] said she ran into someone who said he was on the 63rd floor, and that’s what gave me false hope. ” “He never returned home” The Final Messages To Loved Ones The final messages to the loved ones came in a variety of ways from Windows on the World. Some came via email, others by Blackberry, some managed to use land lines or mobile phones. Some accounts have faxes and others have cherished voicemail’s. By all reports the mobile phone network survived right up until the last minute because the primary transmitter was on the roof, albeit severely impaired by the volume of calls being placed throughout downtown Manhattan. When the final messages were being delivered through the various means, those who were trapped had no chance of survival, they just didn’t know it, neither did anyone else. It was assumed that they had a fighting chance, a slim opportunity to survive, surely someone would survive the dreadful tragedy. Brian Clark, a World Trade Center survivor in the 1993 and 2001 incidents said in his book “Why couldn’t there have been just one survivor from the North Tower above the impact site? – With a parachute or something, I know it sounds absurd, just so we can say one person survived” He added “Perhaps that individual would have been vilified by grieving families, or maybe it would have brought hope of man’s ability to endure however hopeless the odds”, “To see him jumping out of the building and gliding down in bright colors framed with the beautiful blue sky amid the terrible turmoil of the scene would have raised the hearts of both the trapped and the grieving families alike”, “It’s not their son, but he would have carried the spirit of all of them” “If that had been me, I can’t imagine how I would have been able to turn my back on those left behind though” With hindsight, many opportunities to avoid being caught up in this terrible tragedy existed, but who was to know such a terrible thing could happen on such a beautiful day. It seems that the odds of the event occurring remained constant and that time was the only unknown factor. This adds weight to the probability argument that, given time, everything can happen to everyone, everywhere. This single event has forever changed the way Americans live their lives, unlike any other single event in modern US history, save for Pearl Harbor and D-Day. He takes his younger estranged son Peter (Sam Riley) with him to identify the body, and at the morgue they meet other parents who are there for the same reason. It's a diversion that does little to advance the narrative, but it does provide comic respite from the pain of loss. Both relieved and disappointed with the outcome, Alan invites himself to stay with Peter and his family in the hope of reconciliation. With a threadbare plot, the power of this film comes from its theatrical settings, intelligent banter, and Nighy's trademark whimsical mannerisms and stylised performance. The label 'fantasy drama' has been applied to this film but is mis-leading and manifestly inadequate. If there is an element of fantasy, it derives from the way many scenes are played out against backgrounds that are have a surreal, even an absurdist two-dimensional feel that resembles a theatre set. Like all absurdism, there is an artful space between the underlying emotional intensity and the futility of ever trying to understand it. The gravelly Nighy is a master of under-statement, with a unique talent for giving shallow dialogue depth and humour. It's all about contrasts: Alan's obsession with a missing son and neglect of the son he still has; his fastidious Dymo labelling of everything as a substitute for control in his world; and his ability to make light of the heaviest emotions. If you are not a Nighy fan or prefer action-based stories, you may find little to appreciate in this film. In place of a forward-moving narrative it offers a portrait of a dysfunctional family torn apart over guilt and the inability to emotionally connect. The film's title is itself a parody of form over function, referring to the tailor's rule for how jacket buttons should be fastened: the top always, the middle sometimes, the bottom never. Permalink 6 /10 Difficult to categorise but enjoyable enough. 'Sometimes Always Never (2019)' is a bit of an oddity, I suppose, because of its combination of mundanity and quirkiness. It tells a grounded - though, ever-so-slightly absurdist - story with a real emotional weight to it, often with genuine subtlety but more frequently with a strange sort of passivity, and tends to toe the line between comedy and drama to the point that a distinction between the two isn't really worth making. It's not like it's particularly unfocused or haphazard, however, as it certainly feels calculated. Yet, even in its almost articulated unwillingness to conform to convention, there's a sort of intangible sense that it doesn't quite know how odd it is. It's exactly what it wants, and needs, to be. As you can tell, it's a fairly difficult experience to categorise. All in all, though, it's an enjoyable one. It has a compelling central theme and a nice set of main characters, even if the former isn't fleshed out as much as you'd like thanks to a somewhat baggy mid-section. The tone of the thing also fluctuates a little. Usually, it balances the serious with the silly, making sure that both do a decent job of developing character, but there are some moments that make you wish the movie would make its mind up as to whether or not its world is actually 'heightened' (which could be pushed further, if that is the case). It sometimes sounds overly 'written', too; this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the sequences where you actually notice the writing pale in comparison to the ones where you don't. I'll also say that, while it's well directed overall, there are some visual stylistic choices that I don't think pay off. Of course, these issues don't prevent the flick from being generally entertaining. It's somewhat endearing, with great performances and (from what came through in the final result) a good screenplay. It's not perfect, or indeed overly satisfying, and its odd tone - or general 'status', I guess - does make it a bit difficult to get a handle on. Such a clever script and concept- What a clever quirky little movie that proves when done well the British succeed where other fail. No plot or spoilers here as it would ruin the movie but all the performances headed by Bill Nighy as Alan are superb. Bill Nighy plays droll eccentric old men better than anyone I can think of I can't imagine anyone else doing justice to this role. The last time I saw Bill Nighy in a movie was The Bookshop and even though it was not the starring role, he played an almost Dickensian character he stole that movie The only thing I'll say about the story is that it's about two families, both have suffered loss and both are bought together by the game of Scrabble. The supporting cast of Sam Riley as Peter Alan's son and Jenny Agutter, (out of habit as Sister Jullienne) well and truly in this film plays Margaret touchingly and with great humour, this is a very funny movie, almost a comedy but with a lot of pathos Tim McInnerny as Margaret 's droll husband is also very good. Also the rest of the cast Alice Lowe, as Peters wife and Oliver Sindcup as young Peter are very very good. Frank Cottrell Boyce, who wrote screenplays for Goodbye Christopher Columbus, Railway Man, and Hillary and Jackie among other films and television is one of the most respected writers for the British screen and it's easy to understand why. I don't know much about director the Carl Hunter but if Sometimes Always Never is an example of his directing I hope to see more of his movies. It wore its heart on its sleeve and didn't pretend to be anything more than it was;- a personal tale about family and the effect of loss on those who remain. Even without all the crash, boom, bang of a tentpole blockbuster, a movie can still pack a punch. Moreso if it delves into the metaphysical. Bill Nighy is in top form but so are the supporting cast in less bombastic but crucial... supporting roles. Alexei Sayles is surreal! Heaps of effort has gone into making the visuals of each 'simple' scene pop off the screen. You appreciate so much more of these modest films when you see them on the big screen. Bill Nighy and Marmite I will watch pretty much any film with the wonderful Bill Nighy. Just watched this one and not sure what I think of it. His character, wildly knowledgeable when it comes to Scrabble, was 100% wrong when he stated that Marmite is banned in Canada. No, my friend, it definitely isn't. I have a jar in my own cupboard. I actually had to have a look and confirm that it is, indeed, Marmite, and not the poor substitute Vegemite (which he claimed was the only option for Canadians). Marmite has been available here for at least 10 years and, since the film obviously takes place in the present, he was just plain wrong. Now I'm thinking that if the availability of Marmite is my lingering thought after seeing this film, how memorable was it? It DOES meander, as others have said. It DOES try awfully hard to be visually quirky to the point of being absurd at times. It does convey somewhat the damage done to people when someone they love goes missing. There's no closure; they spend their lives from that point on grieving, wondering, blaming, searching and, likely, never really having a carefree moment again. That was certainly brought home to me in all its sadness. If you need cheering up, this is not the film for you. Is this a vitally important film? No. Not even sure why it was made. It is a joy to watch it. First, because of its style of shooting and second, because of its clear and rich colors. It looks as an brilliant school art, designed precisely. A student movie where experiments rarely work. Warning: Spoilers How can a movie that has so much wrong with it, be watchable through to the end? Well this is such a film. Deeply flawed on just about every level the film leans heavily on Bill Nighy's screen presene to sustain audience attention. But even Bill needs a strong director and this film has been directed by a 'wannabe auteur' who hasn't even got out of film school diapers. There is not one technical area that he doesn't mangle, while the script misses so much potential. Set in Merseyside we have so few examples of scouser wit to enjoy, and even the voice coach only manages to squeeze a slight scouse accent out of Nighy. Performances all round unanimously lack emotion, some actors look as if they have no idea why they are there and some scenes seem to have been edited in from another production by mistake e. g. the Alexy Sayle scene. YET I was amused at times (especially the Bill and Jenny bathroom scene) and loved a few little bits of whimsy, and I did stay to the end. Just to address the marmite topic brought up by another reviewer: It was illustrated in the film that Billy Nighy's character Alan was not a reliable story teller. He liked to tell tall tales, like the one about the grandmother with the coal seam in the basement. Going back to the movie, I thought it was quirky like everyone mentioned. I knew it wasn't going to be a straight forward dramedy based on the bizarre, artificial riding in car scenes. It looked like it was done in a 1950s B movie style. Thankfully the movie dials back on that and delivers a fairly straight forward, drama comedy framed around the game of scrabble, but really about Alan and his son Peter, as they try to solve the mystery of the missing son Michael. The body viewing scene (which we don't see) was particularly odd, because we were told that Michael went missing many many years ago when he and Peter were still children. So why would they be called to identify a body? If it was an adult's body, how would they know it was him. Usually they do DNA tests anyway. Other than that weird start, and some scene involving a boat (or did it? ), much of the movie follows a fairly linear format. I think it helps that every character in the movie had something to offer the movie, and generally everyone was likeable. You kind of hoped there would be a resolution of the 'mystery', but ultimately it didn't really matter. Nothing is really 'solved' by the ending, except maybe Peter wasn't as resentful of his missing brother's 'Prodigal Son' stature, and maybe Alan realized it was time to focus on his existing family. 3 out of 4 found this helpful. Quirky! If it wasn't for the presence of mobile phones and computer games you'd think that this was set in the 60's! Bill Nighy is sparsely twinkly, just enough to make me stay in my seat for the entire film. A good cast, an intriguing storyline, almost a period piece. I think Bill must have it in his contract for every piece he does to wear a good coat. (Apart from Dads Army). A family story Really loved every minutes of the film. For me it was a real story with humor and sadness in the same time. I'm not a young man (40y), so I had a lot of similar experience with my family. The life is the same, you cannot avoid sad things, but always can laugh after the hard times. Thats family, you love and hate eachother, but at the end always love there. The actors were excellent and Bill was the one as usual. I'm happy to be able this film in artcinema even in Hungary. Of course this film is not for the crowd. They just should watch Avengers 11. :) And finally it was preatty good to see how british people are living. Thin story, underdeveloped characters and a meandering pace. It tries to be smart and 'cool' by mixing the present with a 60s retro vibe which makes absolutely zero sense when the main character is playing online Scrabble half of the time. But after thinking about the movie for a while, I understood the plot and it all made sense. Quirky, stylish yet with genuine substance There is an almost surreal air to this film, which at first I found disconcerting: the editing and the photography a little like good, but not perfect, animation; the performances, somehow awkwardly theatrical. Nonetheless, as we learn about the characters: their backstory and motivation, the reasons all begin to make delicious sense. Could it be something to do with father Alan's ( Bill Nighy) insistence when younger upon, for instance, buying his sons Revell rather than Airfix models and playing the cheap substitute for, rather than the genuine Scrabble - a game of which provoked one son to vanish and leave brother (Sam Riley) feeling both bereft and unable to fill the place in his father's life. Is the furniture in the house stylishly, yet incongruously from the 1970s to remind everyone what the everyday world may have looked like when brother Mike disappeared? A beautifully paced and framed film. Wonderful performances, from Nighy, Riley and Alice Lowe as his wife. A WORK OF ART..! kmpy 16 January 2020 Every shot of this film is a work of art - the Director, Artistic Director and Cinematographer should all win awards for this film... The sets and backdrops are just wonderful...! I could quite happily leave the film on freeze-frame on my wall mounted tv as a painting... The casting was inspired, the dialog is great and the whole thing has just the perfect level of quirkiness. When it finished, I went straight on to to see what else the Director had done and was amazed to see that the answer was, very little else... why..? (Please let's have more of his work! ). Sometimes Always Never A man's life is taken up with trying to find his lost son who ran out after a row when playing scrabble, an important game in the the man's life and which he come to believe has links to his son's whereabouts. Quirky and just a bit weird, this is a likeable, mostly light hearted tale that almost entirely relies on Bill Nighy's particular style of delivery to pull off which it just about does. It is a small, rather unique, stage like creation which is often quite funny to watch with Nighy front and centre throughout the whole piece, but with a fine supporting cast - nice to see Jenny Agutter do an atypical role for a change - and so well. Not for everyone though. It felt more like a play than a film The flow of the film felt more like a play than a film. It did have a certain amount of charm though. I thought all the actors did a good job. 3 /10 heartwarming and quirky I loved this movie, sometimes the acting was very theatrical, the angles unusual and the greenscreen amateurish.. but then thats the genius. This family comedy-drama is rife with full-bodied characters and quirky moments delivered with a rich but dry humor. While I enjoyed the mise-en-scène very much, the cinematography was slightly less than adequate and although Bill Night's performance was spot-on his costars were a notch above mediocre.
